Thousands of people drive past it every day. Most don’t give much thought to stopping to see it though. And admittedly, the barren landscape of the west desert between the western side of the Great Salt Lake and the Great Basin never really appealed to me growing up. But as with many places I previously considered “boring”, I am discovering places like the Bonneville Salt Flats are actually quite fascinating and beautiful in its own unique way.
By now we are half way through our winter season in Salt Lake and it has been passing rather quickly it seems. While many, or dare I say most people can’t wait to get the cold season over with, I find choosing to get the most out of it the best approach. Luckily Utah is a pretty great place to be able to have fun in winter.
With the new year underway and while I am still maintaining a busy schedule, I decided I would take a weekend to visit one of the most beautiful places Utah has to offer. I would go so far as to say Zion National Park is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
Well, a new year has begun and I am already looking forward to things I have planned and the fun things that tend to show up on their own here and there. This last holiday season was rather busy for me but not busy enough to get out and see some neat things. I made it up to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon and found a good spot to watch their torch light parade and fireworks show. The scenic backdrop was the perfect venue to watch the festivities. The snow became sort of a canvas, reflecting the colorful bursts of light of the fireworks.
The year has come to an end and winter has set in at home in Utah. I’ve healed up from the injury I incurred about two months ago and I am happy to be back outdoors and able to enjoy taking photos where I enjoy most, the mountains. The season is off to a good start with a few good storms bringing lots of snow. We are hopeful for a winter with plenty of snow as the last two or three have been really lacking in that department. I’m looking forward to skiing and snow-shoeing in the beautiful Wasatch mountains.
The holidays are approaching and the year is quickly coming to an end. And boy what a year it has been. I can’t remember any time in my life where I have been so busy. I’ve seen some wonderful places from different corners of the globe. I also found joy through photography which in turn motivates me to see and do more.
I was yearning to get out of town and wanted some good cityscape photos. With many cities as possible options, Chicago came to mind with its quintessential urban setting.
Wyoming is home to two U.S. National Parks, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Since both are relatively close to one another and not too far from my home in Salt Lake City, I recently took a weekend and visited both of these serene destinations.
